What is Sixteen Mile Studio?
Web application developer by day, and freelance web designer by night. For me, the workday never ends... call me a workaholic.
Since early 2007, I have been absorbed in web design and development. But to start from the very beginning, I actually began playing with web design in 2001 while studying Computer Science at McGill University. I was self-teaching my own vision of web design, and managed to create a simple site with early versions of Dreamweaver and Fireworks, back when Macromedia was the powerhouse behind design tools for the web.
I had access to web space on my faculty's server, so, always up for a challenge, I decided to try my hand at creating a personal website. And I persisted, as did we all, when 56K dial-up was the norm in most households. In saying that, one can imagine that graphic optimization was of utmost importance when considering page loading time. Of course now, we can focus our efforts on the more creative aspects of web design without having to worry so much about the overhead.
So it seems I took quite a long hiatus, but have been rediscovering my love for web design, getting caught up on the new features of Adobe Creative Suite with some web design courses. I must say, in only a few years of being "out of the game", times have changed, as they always do in the world of technology. There is even more to learn, and how does one keep up with all the new developments? Well, I continue to learn everyday. But what I love about it is that I can meld two aspects of myself -- my creativity and my love of programming; these come together naturally in web design.
Sixteen Mile Studio was born in 2008, primarily as a means of testing design concepts and open source solutions for new projects, as well as developing an online presence. I had the good fortune of teaming up with LIA Communications, a marketing company owned by a friend of mine with whom I had recently reconnected. I was given the perfect opportunity to work on some small web projects, giving me a chance to hone my web development skills. Since then, I've managed to complete a number of websites: some straight forward XHTML, PHP, and CSS; others incorporating content management systems, photo galleries, and e-commerce.

This is my playground.
